I've got an announcement to make
biweekly cadence, halloween cont. & Día de Muertos
Hola amigxs! 🎃
Happy Halloween to all who celebrate! It’s that perfect time of year when spooky Halloween fun meets the soulful magic of Día de Muertos, with vibrant festivities throughout the city. Soak up every bit of this epic holiday energy and make the most of it out there!
Now, a quick update: I’m shifting the newsletter to a biweekly schedule for a while. Between the demands of my FT job and freelance writing gig, weekly issues are just a tad too much to juggle at the moment. I’m hoping to get back to a weekly cadence, but we’ll see how things go. In the meantime, topics in the pipeline include the subtleties of “whitexicans” and that touchy topic of gentrification in CDMX.
Since I’m busy AF, we’re skipping the top story this week—but don’t fret! You can dive into the archives for anything you might have missed, plus I’ve packed in some top curated reads to keep you in the loop on all things Mexico. And, of course, a roundup of events to fill up your social calendar for the next two weeks.
Oh, and apologies if you’ve emailed me since August and haven’t heard back 😬Turns out those emails weren’t forwarding as planned. But it’s good to know I’m not talking to myself here—I’ll be getting back to you all soon.
Thanks for reading, and enjoy an amazing Halloween and Día de Muertos!

DID YOU KNOW?
That you can honor your deceased ancestors by setting up a Día de Muertos altar (ofrenda)! This tradition, rooted in ancient Mesoamerican cultures, invites the spirits of loved ones to join the celebration with offerings of photos, favorite foods, and marigold flowers. Blending indigenous and Spanish influences, Día de Muertos was recognized by UNESCO in 2008 as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and is now celebrated worldwide.
